08.03.2025 St Martins Res Vs Alderney Nomads

St Martin’s 1 – Alderney 0

A useful warm-up for the Muratti semi-final in a fortnight’s time but an unfortunate result for a battling Nomads team.

Back on grass for the first time in weeks, the Nomads were impressive for long spells, particularly in the second half, but just couldn’t find an elusive goal.

The goal conceded was also unfortunate. James Taylor had already made a great point blank save after we gave away possession in a dangerous area but when we did it again, on 25 minutes, he had no chance.

The Saints team was strong, and contained two Guernsey Muratti players, but in the second half we were the better side, with all the goalmouth action at the Saints end.

That included a hugely contentious ‘goal’ ruled out for Liam Connor as he came in on a deep cross from the left and appeared to score into the roof of the net, but somehow the referee, unhelpful linesman and Saints defenders managed to agree that the ball had not gone into the goal.

Jamie Blackham forced a great save from the Saints keeper but we just could not force that equaliser.

It was a tough but useful workout before the Muratti and the team can feel proud of the performance at least.

Nomads: Taylor; Maloy, Concanen, Pengelley, Carre; A Adamson, Parry, Blackham; Connor, Walker, J Adamson.  Subs: State, Toko, S White, Albin.
