Match report – Lancaster League Div1
Alderney Nomads 1 – 3 Vale rec res
As storm Amy hits the UK gale force westerly winds with heavy sleety showers welcome the young Vale Recreation team to Alderney, luckily no cross winds at the airport allowed them to make the journey across the channel. As the teams came out, the heavens opened with thunder and lightning and quickly headed for the changing rooms, all the early spectators made their way into the clubhouse. Incredibly difficult conditions for playing football, refereeing, watching, with the high winds crossing across the pitch meant most of the play in both halves was on the clubhouse side of the ground. Vale Rec started brightly against the main direction of the wind; their young forward line looked lively and soon went 0-1 up after 5mins. 10mins later a curling shot from just outside the box made it 0-2, not the start the Nomads were hoping for. As with the previous week’s game Dante had the first few shots for the Nomads, the first blocked and the 2nd following a neat lay off by Parry his shot was just over the bar. He then forced a good save from the visiting keeper following a free kick won by Parry. The Nomads end the half wind, assisted, frustrated not to have at least got a goal back, as the loyal crowd headed for cover from the weather.
Half Time Alderney 0-2 Vale Rec res
Half time sub, Owen Carre on for Olly and like last Saturday’s appearance he immediately made an impact, the Nomads soon made it 1-2 a neat turn and finish by Lawrence, and was very close soon after following a Walker lay off, could have been 2-2 on 65mins. The home side had their best spell of the game during this period, despite the conditions played some decent football, with chances falling to Carre, Blackham and Connor. Vale Rec had a player sent off for an off the ball incident and tackles started to fly in, with the Nomads controlling the game they just couldn’t find the equaliser. Walker had one of the last chances for the home side, Taylor and Ives on, but the Nomads just couldn’t find a way past the visiting keeper, on the final whistle Vale Rec made it 3 with a goal from wind assisted corner beat Laband in the near post. Some good performances throughout the team, Parry, Maloy, Walker consistent halves with the MOM awarded to Jamie Blackham selected by James Walker, and a special thank you to John Stretton who retrieved most of the balls that ended up over the clubhouse and beyond.
