Match report – Lancaster League Div1

Alderney Nomads 0 – 0 Sylvans res

Another windy day for football on Alderney, this time a strong North cross wind blew across the Arsenal ground, fortunately though without the rain of previous weeks. The Nomads gave a home debut to Miles Pengelley, who played in midfield, and welcomed back John Adamson. An ankle injury to Andrew Mills and still sidelined Dean Carre both were unavailable for this fixture. A quiet start to the game with the visitors (who contained several Priaulx players) just slightly leading on possession. The first chance did fall to them, a cross was spilled by Laband, but made a super recovery save to redeem. Walker wins a free kick in a good position, the Nomads first real venture into Sylvans territory, his shot was hit with venom, straight into the wall. Pengelley who was distributing well in midfield had a shot just wide, Lawrence also was in a good position but his attempt was quite a distance from goal and went wide and over. Sylvans flurries into the Nomads half were all well defended by the Adamson’s and Parry all throwing their bodies on the line to protect their goal. Just before half time the best chance of the game and move of the match, Pengelley to Lawrence who found Carre, his shot, the crowd all thought was in, somehow the keeper plucked the ball out of the air.

Half Time Alderney 0-0 Sylvans res

Half time sub, Taylor on for Carre, the game continued in a similar vein both teams attempting to play football despite the conditions, end to end counter attacking kept the good crowd watching entertained. Sylvans had the first real chance following a free kick conceded by John, their left back should have hit the target; it was a let off for the Nomads. Olly Taylor looked lively and stronger game by game, and is looking a real prospect for the Nomads forward line, he created a chance that was saved well. Our keeper Laband who looked solid all match, his distribution, kicking and made a series of excellent saves, one he tipped over the bar one a shot drilled that forced a diving save the ball went for a corner. This fine performance earned him the man of the match award selected by sponsors Bell & Co. It was an end-to-end half both teams could have sneaked a win but the consensus being the draw was a fair result, and a rare score for the Nomads 0-0, the last being November 2023 v Northerners.
